A deeply distressing incident has rocked the Alikadam Upazila of Bandarban, as 70-year-old Rahima Begum was found murdered in her home on Saturday night. The police recovered her body with her throat slashed in the Old Shibatali area of 2 No. Chaikhyang Union at approximately 11:00 pm on 14 February. Rahima was the wife of Abu Tal, a long-standing resident of the area.
Neighbours and local sources reported that Rahima had been bedridden for several years due to paralysis. Her son, Nurul Amin, described the family’s shock and grief, stating, “My mother had been suffering from paralysis for a long time. To lose her in such a violent and cruel manner is unimaginable. We demand that justice is served promptly.”
Former Union Parishad member Oliur Rahman, who was among the first to arrive at the scene, confirmed the gravity of the situation and immediately contacted the authorities. The police subsequently arrived, retrieved the body, and initiated an investigation.
Alikadam Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Alamgir Hossain Shah, revealed that early inquiries indicate the killing may have arisen from a domestic dispute. The investigation points to Rahima’s middle son’s first wife and two daughters-in-law as potentially involved in the crime. Four suspects have been detained for questioning. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, and a formal case has been registered.
Residents have described the killing as both shocking and horrific, calling for swift legal action. Family members and the local community are urging the authorities to ensure justice is delivered.
