The national weather authority has predicted that several parts of the country may experience rain and thunderstorms during the next twenty-four hours, with the possibility of isolated hailstorms in some areas. According to the latest meteorological bulletin, a slight decrease in both daytime and night-time temperatures is also expected across the country.
The forecast, issued at nine o’clock on Saturday morning and valid for the following twenty-four hours, indicates that current atmospheric conditions are favourable for unstable weather. Meteorologists have reported that an extended trough of low pressure is presently positioned over West Bengal and the surrounding region. At the same time, the seasonal low-pressure system continues to remain over the southern part of the Bay of Bengal.
These weather systems are likely to influence the development of clouds and intermittent precipitation in different regions. As a result, scattered rain or thundershowers accompanied by lightning and gusty winds may occur in several districts within the Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions. In addition, one or two locations in the divisions of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram could also experience temporary spells of rain or thunderstorms.
Meteorologists have further indicated that some areas may witness sporadic hailstorms during these thunderstorms. Hail occurs when strong upward air currents within towering storm clouds lift raindrops into extremely cold layers of the atmosphere, where they freeze and grow before falling to the ground as ice pellets.
Such weather patterns are relatively common during transitional periods of the season, when warm air near the surface meets cooler air at higher altitudes. The resulting atmospheric instability can lead to the rapid formation of storm clouds, bringing lightning, gusty winds and sudden showers.
Apart from rainfall activity, the forecast suggests that temperatures may decline slightly across the country. Increased cloud cover and rain showers typically reduce daytime heating and contribute to somewhat cooler conditions during the night.
Weather observations recorded during the past twenty-four hours show that the highest temperature in the country was measured in Jashore, while the largest amount of rainfall was reported in Sylhet.
Weather Statistics in the Last Twenty-Four Hours
| Location | Indicator | Measurement |
|---|---|---|
| Jashore | Highest temperature | 36.4 degrees Celsius |
| Sylhet | Highest rainfall | 83 millimetres |
Meteorologists note that northeastern regions such as Sylhet frequently receive heavier rainfall because moist air from the Bay of Bengal tends to accumulate and rise more easily in that area.
Authorities have advised residents to remain alert during thunderstorms, particularly in open areas or near tall structures, as lightning and strong winds may accompany the showers. Although the expected rainfall may provide some relief from recent warm conditions, sudden weather changes could occur in affected regions.
