TikTok Creator Arrested Over Rape Allegation

Police in the Ashulia area of Savar have arrested a young social media content creator following allegations that he raped a woman after she refused to participate in producing TikTok videos. The arrest was carried out on Sunday afternoon, 15 March, in the Palashbari neighbourhood, according to local law-enforcement authorities.

The suspect has been identified as Md Imran Talukdar, 25, widely known online by the alias “BP Imran.” Investigators say he had been residing in a rented house in Palashbari, where he regularly produced short-form video content for social media platforms, including TikTok. The case came to light after the alleged victim filed a formal complaint at Ashulia Police Station late on Saturday night.

Allegations by the Victim

In her complaint, the woman stated that she had been collaborating with Imran for a considerable period in creating TikTok videos and other short online content. Such collaborations—often involving lip-sync performances, comedy sketches and lifestyle clips—have become a common pathway for aspiring digital creators to gain visibility on social media.

However, the complainant alleged that she recently expressed her unwillingness to continue appearing in such videos due to personal reasons. According to her statement, the situation escalated on 12 March, when she met Imran in Palashbari. During that encounter, she alleged that he forcibly raped her after she again refused to take part in filming content.

The victim further claimed that after the alleged assault, two other individuals assisted the accused in physically attacking her. The complaint names Junayet and Somaiya, both described as fellow content creators, as additional accused in the case.

Police Response

After receiving the complaint, Ashulia Police initiated an investigation and began searching for the suspect. Officers later conducted an operation in the Palashbari area, where they detained Imran on Sunday afternoon.

Police confirmed that the accused was formally arrested and subsequently produced before a court for further legal proceedings.

Rubel Hawlader, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ashulia Police Station, said the arrest was made promptly following the victim’s complaint.

“We have arrested one individual named Imran based on the allegations brought by the victim,” the OC said. “He has already been sent to court, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.”

Authorities also indicated that efforts are under way to locate the other two individuals named in the complaint.

Growing Scrutiny of Social Media Collaborations

The incident has drawn attention to safety concerns surrounding informal collaborations within the expanding social media content industry in Bangladesh. Platforms such as TikTok have enabled many young creators to reach large audiences, sometimes turning viral videos into income opportunities.

However, experts say the largely informal nature of such collaborations can create situations where participants lack clear agreements, professional oversight or personal safeguards.

Legal analysts note that regardless of the circumstances surrounding content production, allegations involving sexual assault or violence fall strictly under criminal law and are treated as serious offences.

Investigation Continues

Police said investigators are currently gathering statements and other evidence related to the case. The roles of the two additional accused individuals named in the complaint are also being examined.

If sufficient evidence is found, prosecutors may pursue charges under relevant provisions of Bangladesh’s criminal law relating to rape and assault.

Authorities emphasised that the investigation remains ongoing, and further developments may emerge as the case proceeds through the judicial process.
