Top Chittagong Militants Apprehended by Police

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) have successfully apprehended two of the city’s most notorious militants, authorities confirmed on Wednesday. The announcement was made by Shahin Alam, Officer-in-Charge of Karnaphuli Police Station, who described the arrests as part of a broader operation aimed at curbing criminal activities ahead of the forthcoming elections.

The detainees have been identified as Akhtar Hossain Prokash Akhtar, wanted in 13 separate criminal cases, and Nurul Amin Titu, facing six cases. The CMP had previously listed them as numbers 42 and 41, respectively, among the city’s most dangerous criminals.

Speaking to the press, OC Shahin Alam stated, “We have detained two top-tier militants and seized a substantial cache of illegal weapons. Our operations are intensified to prevent any terrorist or criminal activity before the elections. Efforts to apprehend other listed criminals are ongoing and will continue until all are brought to justice.”

According to police sources, Akhtar Hossain was arrested from the home of Mariam Begum Prokash Badoni in Bairaag Uttar Bandar, following a tip-off and intelligence-based operation. During the raid, authorities recovered a significant arsenal, including:

  • One locally manufactured light machine gun (LMG)

  • One vintage foreign revolver

  • Two Chinese-made machetes

  • One dhama (a type of heavy blade) along with various other illegal arms

Following his arrest, a case concerning possession of illegal weapons has been filed against Akhtar Hossain. Beyond this, he is implicated in multiple charges, including murder, extortion, and armed robbery, totaling 13 active cases.

Meanwhile, Nurul Amin Titu was apprehended in a separate operation at Jamalpara, Shiklabahar. He has been remanded to court under the Special Powers Act. Titu faces accusations in cases encompassing murder, firearms offences, and narcotics, amounting to six cases in total.
