In a major law enforcement operation, Sajedul Islam Lalu, a notorious criminal and accused in multiple murder cases, was apprehended along with three of his associates in Gozaria, Munshiganj. The arrests mark a significant breakthrough in the ongoing efforts to curb organised crime in the region.
The operation took place on Wednesday, 17 December, spanning multiple locations, including the Hatirjheel area of Dhaka, Siddhirganj in Narayanganj, and the Kanchpur Balu Field area of Sonargaon Thana, where the suspects were finally detained.
Officer-in-Charge of Gozaria Police Station, Md. Hasan Ali, confirmed the arrests and provided details of the suspects. “Lalu, a resident of Hoglakandi village in Imam Pur Union, Gozaria, has been implicated in a total of 23 criminal cases, including murder and robbery. He is the principal accused in several high-profile killings, including the murders of shooter Mannan, Hridoy Bagh, and Jahirul Islam Joy,” he said.
In addition to Lalu, three other individuals linked to the Jahirul Islam Joy murder case were also taken into custody. They are:
- Alaudin (65) – father
- Shakil (23) – son
- Jasim (45) – brother
All three are residents of Chaudda Kahnia village in Bausia Union, and formal legal proceedings against them are currently underway.

Authorities emphasised that the arrests are part of a wider crackdown on criminal networks operating in Munshiganj and surrounding areas. Officer Hasan Ali stated, “These arrests are a major step towards restoring peace and security in Gozaria. The individuals detained have been responsible for instilling fear among local residents for an extended period.”
The police have assured the public that all legal procedures will be strictly followed and that investigations are ongoing to identify any further accomplices. Residents of the area have welcomed the operation, viewing it as a positive development in the fight against violent crime.
