Tragic suicide of a female police officer in the south

A female police officer in Dhaka’s South Khan area has reportedly taken her own life, shocking the local community and law enforcement. The deceased has been identified as Razia Sultana Mim, 28.

According to reports, Mim was found hanging in her room in the Kosai Bari locality of South Khan police station. She was discovered in an unconscious state around 1:00 a.m. on Thursday, 1 January, and was immediately rushed to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Emergency Department. Despite efforts by the medical team, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Mim’s father, Md. Nasir Uddin Bacchu, confirmed the incident and revealed that both his daughter and her husband, Rajib Mia, were serving members of the police force. He stated that family disputes had escalated on the night of the tragedy.

“We learned that due to a family quarrel, around 10:00 p.m., Mim went to her room, tied a scarf to the ceiling fan, and attempted to take her life. Her husband later found her unconscious and rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Sadly, the doctors declared her dead,” he said.

The family originally hails from the Noyabari area under Uzirpur Police Station in Barisal district, but at the time of the incident, they were residing in a rented apartment in South Khan, Dhaka. Mim leaves behind a young daughter.

Inspector Md. Faruk, in charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp, confirmed the death. He stated that the body has been kept in the DMCH morgue, and the matter has been formally reported to the relevant police authorities for further investigation.

Police have stated that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident, and authorities are appealing for anyone with further information to come forward. The news has prompted condolences from colleagues and community members alike, highlighting the emotional toll of familial stress and the pressures faced by law enforcement personnel.
