Trump Claims Leadership During Israel’s First Attack on Iran

Former U.S. President Donald Trump has admitted that he was in charge during Israel’s first attack on Iran, contradicting earlier statements from the U.S. administration that the strike was solely an Israeli operation.

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Trump said, “Israel launched the initial attack. I was fully responsible at that time.” He added that the damage from the first strike was greater than subsequent attacks.

Trump also urged Republicans to ensure a path for majority votes in the Senate, saying, “Just as Israel acted decisively against Iran, Republicans must be equally resolute in changing Senate rules.”

On June 13, Israel carried out a major strike in Iran, killing generals, nuclear scientists, and civilians. In response, Iran fired over a hundred missiles, and the U.S. later carried out airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites. At that time, Washington stated it was not directly involved.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio had said, “Israel acted unilaterally tonight; the U.S. is not involved.” Iran later attacked a U.S. airbase in Qatar, leading to a ceasefire agreement between the two countries.

Trump has since claimed credit for U.S. successes in the conflict. Tehran has yet to release full details of the damage.

Analysts note there is no current urgency in the U.S. administration to engage with Iran, while Tehran remains cautious about diplomatic proposals. Trump had sought a deal in which Iran would establish formal relations with Israel.
