In a harrowing incident in Dupchanchia, Bogura, two suspects have been placed in five-day judicial remand over the abduction and subsequent strangulation of a local businessman. The order was issued on Tuesday evening by Judicial Magistrate Ariful Haque, according to Inspector Shahidul Islam of Bogura Court Police.
Inspector Islam confirmed that the two suspects were produced in court on Monday afternoon by the investigating officer of the murder case, Sub-Inspector Raihan Kabir of Dupchanchia Police Station. Although the police initially sought seven days of remand for each, the court approved a five-day remand following the hearing.
The two individuals accused are identified as Sanowar Hossain (40), a microbus driver from Sajapur village, and Sakib (24) from Kormoji village, both in Dupchanchia.
The victim, Pintu Akand, was found dead around 11:15 pm on Monday in Kumarpara area of neighbouring Adamdighi Upazila, nearly two hours after being abducted. Pintu owned a shoe showroom in Dupchanchia Sadar and resided in Lohachura village, Raninagar Upazila, Naogaon.
Police and local sources report that Pintu was forced into a microbus at gunpoint from his business premises around 9:15 pm on Monday. CCTV footage from nearby establishments captured the entire abduction, which later circulated on social media.
Following the incident, Pintu’s wife, Sabina Khatun, filed a case with Dupchanchia Police Station, accusing six to seven unidentified individuals of abduction and murder. The two suspects currently in custody were presented in court in relation to this case.
Dupchanchia Police Officer-in-Charge Afzal Hossain stated that Pintu’s body was discovered with his nose and mouth bound with tape, suggesting death by strangulation. The vehicle used in the crime has been seized, and the driver has been taken into immediate custody for questioning. While the exact motive remains unclear, the body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem examination.
