Mymensingh authorities have made further progress in the investigation into the violent murder of 27-year-old garment worker Dipu Chandra Das. On Wednesday night, two more suspects were apprehended by the Detective Branch of the district police during separate operations in Valuka Upazila. The arrested individuals have been identified as 19-year-old Siam Ahmed and 28-year-old Abdullah.
Siam Ahmed, the son of Saiful Islam, hails from Batajor Dakuria village, while Abdullah is the son of Md. Idris Ali from Koraitala village in Hobirbari Union. Police confirmed that the arrests followed a detailed probe utilising CCTV footage, digital evidence, and field intelligence to trace all participants involved in the crime. Siam was detained in Batajor Dakuria, whereas Abdullah was apprehended from Jamirdia.
Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) in Mymensingh, described the suspects’ involvement: “Both individuals were present when Dipu’s body was hung from a tree along Masterbari Square’s main road. They actively pulled the rope, shouted slogans, incited the public, and encouraged others to assault the deceased, playing a direct role in escalating the violence.”
So far, police have arrested 25 suspects in connection with the case, of whom 12 have given confessional statements in court. The brutal incident took place on the night of 18 December 2025 at Dubaliyapara, Hobirbari Union. Dipu Das had initially been detained under allegations of religious defamation, subsequently beaten to death, and finally set on fire while suspended from a tree along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.
