Manikganj, Bangladesh — In a disturbing incident, police have arrested two members of the Ansar force over allegations of raping a 16-year-old girl. The victim is currently receiving medical treatment in the gynaecology ward of Manikganj District Sadar Hospital.
According to authorities, the girl is originally from Singair Upazila in Manikganj. Though underage, she was married approximately seven months ago in Shibganj Upazila, Chapainawabganj. She currently resides in Narayanganj with her husband.
Sources from the police, hospital, and the victim reveal that her husband works at a textile factory in Narayanganj, transporting thread using a battery-operated van. On the afternoon of the incident, around 3:00 pm, the couple had travelled to Nanabari in Manikganj Sadar for an outing. By midnight, when they reached Manikganj bus stand, the van’s battery had run out. Fearing for their safety, they took temporary shelter beneath a tree near the emergency department of the district hospital around 12:30 am.
It is alleged that on noticing the couple, Ansar members Shahadat Hossain and Abu Saeed escorted them into the hospital, where the girl was subsequently assaulted on the second floor. The victim later informed her husband of the assault. With the assistance of other patients and their relatives, the accused were apprehended and handed over to the police.
The victim, still undergoing treatment in the gynaecology ward, stated, “Both Ansar members brutally assaulted me. I want justice to be served fully.” Her husband added, “They threatened and assaulted my wife while wearing Ansar uniforms.”
Dr. Md. Towhidul Islam, the hospital’s Resident Medical Officer, confirmed that all on-duty Ansar personnel were called to identify the accused. Medical examinations have been conducted, and treatment is ongoing.
Superintendent of Police Mohammad Sarwar Alam visited the hospital to meet with the victim, while Sadar Police Station OC Md. Ikram Hossain confirmed that a formal complaint is being prepared. Legal proceedings against the accused will follow.
