Dhaka police have apprehended two individuals, including an active army member, in connection with the fatal assault of former soldier Mahbub Alam in Uttara. The suspects, identified as Lance Corporal Imran and Johnny, have reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime during court proceedings, according to Kazi Rafique, Officer-in-Charge of Uttara West Police Station.
“The two accused have provided confessional statements before the court, admitting their roles in the murder,” the OC confirmed.
Earlier, Sub-Inspector Md. Kamrul Islam of Uttara West Police reported that Mahbub Alam, aged 57, succumbed to injuries on Sunday night while receiving treatment at Dhaka’s Combined Military Hospital (CMH). Alam had been employed in the accounts department of a private company in the Uttara East area.
Police sources detailed the incident: on the evening of 16 January, Mahbub Alam visited Sector 14, Road 12 in Uttara West while seeking employment as a bodyguard. At that time, two vehicles arrived at the location. One individual emerged from a car and struck Alam on the head with a stick. Within moments, five to six others joined in, beating him severely before fleeing the scene. Passersby rushed him to CMH, where he later died from his injuries.
Following the incident, a murder case was lodged at Uttara West Police Station. Investigators reviewed CCTV footage recovered from the crime scene, which led to the identification and arrest of Imran and Johnny.
