Tragedy struck Golachipa village in Shahedal Union, Hossainpur, Kishoreganj, on Saturday morning, 22 November, when two brothers were electrocuted after coming into contact with a torn electric wire. The deceased have been identified as Nuru Khan, 60, and his younger brother Fazlu Khan, 55, both sons of Hasen Uddin and long-time residents of the village. Both men were engaged in farming.
According to family members, the incident occurred in the early hours when Nuru Khan went to collect straw for his cattle near their home. While handling the materials, he inadvertently touched a fallen live wire and was electrocuted. Fazlu Khan, in a heroic attempt to rescue his elder brother, also came into contact with the wire and suffered fatal electrocution. Tragically, both men died instantly at the scene.
Shahedal Union Parishad Chairman Md Firuz Uddin and Hossainpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nahida Sultana confirmed the deaths. The bodies are currently being kept at Hossainpur Police Station, pending further procedures.
Officer-in-Charge of Hossainpur Police Station, Maruf Hossain, stated that police teams were dispatched immediately after the news was received. “We are currently conducting the necessary legal and investigative procedures to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident,” he said.
Electricity-related accidents remain a persistent hazard in rural areas, where damaged or exposed wiring can pose a serious threat to local residents. Officials have urged villagers to exercise extreme caution around electrical lines and to report any exposed or broken wires to the authorities promptly.
