Two Killed in Dinajpur Crash

A devastating collision between a passenger bus and a stationary truck in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur district has left two people dead and at least ten others injured, prompting grief and concern across the locality. The accident occurred on Sunday morning along the Dinajpur–Dhaka highway in the Chandipur area.

According to eyewitness accounts, a heavy truck had been parked for an extended period on the roadside. At that moment, a passenger bus travelling from Panchagarh towards Dhaka approached the area at high speed. The bus reportedly lost control and slammed violently into the rear of the stationary vehicle. The impact generated a loud crash that drew nearby residents to the scene, where chaotic scenes unfolded amid wreckage and cries for help.

The front section of the bus and the rear portion of the truck were extensively mangled in the collision, indicating the severity of the impact. Two individuals, identified as the bus helper and a passenger, died on the spot. One of the deceased was confirmed as Mosharraf Hossain Babu (58), son of Khobir Uddin from Arikhola area in Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj district. The identity of the second deceased has not yet been formally established.

Emergency response teams, assisted by local residents, rescued at least ten injured passengers from the wreckage. Police and fire service personnel later arrived at the scene and transported the injured to Birampur Upazila Health Complex and Fulbari Upazila Health Complex for treatment. Doctors have stated that several of the injured remain in critical condition, raising fears that the death toll could rise.

The accident caused significant disruption on the highway, with both damaged vehicles obstructing traffic and leading to long tailbacks. Normal traffic flow was restored only after law enforcement and local authorities cleared the road and managed the situation.

Local residents have expressed frustration over the frequent occurrence of accidents on this highway, citing reckless driving, speeding, and unsafe roadside parking as persistent hazards. They have called for stronger traffic enforcement, improved monitoring systems, and stricter regulation of heavy vehicles to prevent further tragedies.

A sub-inspector from Birampur Police Station confirmed that an investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the crash. Preliminary findings suggest that excessive speed combined with the unsafe presence of a stationary vehicle on the highway may have contributed to the accident. Authorities have assured that a detailed report will be published upon completion of the inquiry.
