Details of the Incident
According to local witnesses and police reports, three friends—all students of Ratanpur Khoshbahar High School—had set out on a motorcycle for a leisurely ride on Saturday afternoon. As they reached the Takktarchala market area, their motorcycle collided violently with an oncoming pick-up van.
The impact was catastrophic. Mozammel Hossain, 15, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. His companions, Iyanur Rahman, 15, and Mahir Hasan, 16, sustained critical injuries and were initially rushed to the Sakhipur Upazila Health Complex. Due to their deteriorating conditions, medical staff referred them to Dhaka for specialist trauma care. Tragically, Iyanur succumbed to his injuries shortly after arriving in the Uttara district of the capital.

A Community in Mourning
The tragedy has struck a particularly poignant chord in the Hatibandha Union. Iyanur Rahman was the son of Shiuli Begum, a reserved female member of the Hatibandha Union Parishad. On Sunday morning, the air in Baliata village was thick with grief as neighbours gathered to offer condolences.
In a heart-wrenching scene, Shiuli Begum was seen weeping openly in her courtyard, lamenting the purchase of the motorcycle that her son had pleaded for only months prior. “Why did you have to leave us, my son?” she cried, as relatives struggled to provide solace.
Legal and Funeral Proceedings
The bodies of the two young boys were returned to their respective villages, where their Janaza (funeral prayers) took place at 10:00 AM on Sunday. Both were laid to rest in their ancestral family graveyards amidst an outpouring of local sympathy.
Helal Uddin, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sakhipur Police Station, confirmed the fatalities and stated that the legal process is currently underway. While the pick-up van involved in the crash fled the scene, police are actively reviewing local intelligence and CCTV footage to identify and seize the vehicle. Meanwhile, the third teenager, Mahir Hasan, remains under intensive medical supervision in Dhaka, with the community holding its collective breath for his recovery.
