Authorities in Gazipur’s Tongi area recovered the body of an unidentified young man from the Turag River on Tuesday, 17 March. The body was discovered around midday near the Sandarpara section of the river. Preliminary assessments suggest the deceased was approximately 30 years old.
Local residents reported spotting the body floating in the river around 12:00 pm and promptly informed the river police. A team from the Tongi River Police unit arrived quickly at the scene and retrieved the body. It was subsequently transported to the morgue of Dhaka’s Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Sub-Inspector Kazi Newaz, in charge of the Tongi River Police unit, confirmed the recovery: “The body has been sent for autopsy. We are preparing to register a case regarding either a potential homicide or an unidentified person. The deceased was wearing a T-shirt and trousers at the time of recovery.”
According to the initial investigation, the police did not observe any obvious signs of injury or trauma on the body. However, the definitive cause of death will be determined following the post-mortem report. Law enforcement has increased patrolling along the riverbanks and is actively seeking information from local residents.
