Fashion icon Manish Malhotra has taken a bold step into the film world, producing the upcoming musical romance Gustakh Ishq. Directed by Vibhuti Puri, the film promises to enthral audiences with the tender chemistry between Vijay Varma and Fatima Sana Shaikh. The trailer premiered last Monday in Mumbai amidst glitz and glamour, revealing a film that also stars the legendary Naseeruddin Shah.
The music, crafted by Vishal Bhardwaj with Gulzar’s evocative lyrics, adds a lyrical depth that complements the film’s romantic narrative. Fatima, often seen in ensemble casts, takes the lead role for the first time. She reflected at the launch, “I’ve played many roles since childhood, starting as a child artist. There was a belief in the industry that child actors couldn’t become leading ladies. I auditioned relentlessly to challenge that notion.”
Fatima also recounted her television days, where strict schedules and unpaid absences were the norm. “I promised myself that if I ever had a lead role, I would treat my colleagues with respect. I feel fortunate to work with Naseeruddin Shah and Manish,” she said.
Speaking candidly about love, Fatima admitted, “Falling in love is losing control. No matter how much we try to restrain ourselves, we forget everything. Even if love is toxic, we dive in. Love is total emotional surrender, and this film allowed me to express that completely.”
Working alongside Shah was an invaluable experience. “I was nervous at first, but he is patient and insightful. He taught me to move beyond performative acting and embrace genuine moments,” she said.
Vijay Varma, known for his intense roles, embraces a softer, romantic character this time. “Modern relationships are labelled in ways they weren’t before. Ghosting, toxic behaviour—but love itself hasn’t changed. Only its expression has,” he reflected.
Set to release on 28 November, Gustakh Ishq weaves together love, tenderness, and life’s struggles in a heartfelt story, promising audiences a moving and relatable cinematic experience that celebrates the transformative power of love.
