Village Celebrates as Three Students Secure Medical College Places Together

A wave of pride and celebration has swept through Sonatundi, a small village in Shreepur upazila of Magura district, after three students from the same community secured admission to government medical colleges for the 2025–26 academic session. The remarkable achievement has drawn admiration from educators, families and local leaders alike, marking a milestone in the village’s educational journey.

The results of the national medical admission test were published on 14 December, revealing that three students from Sonatundi village under Sabdalpur Union had earned places at three of the country’s most prestigious government medical institutions. Arafat Mahmud has been admitted to Mugda Medical College, Nusrat Jahan Tanima to Khulna Medical College, and Nafiz Iqbal Nishan to Chattogram Medical College.

Though Sonatundi is a modest rural village, this collective success has set a powerful example for surrounding communities. All three students are alumni of Hat Dwaryapur Sammilani Secondary School, from where they passed their Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations in science in 2022. Their shared academic roots and disciplined preparation have become a source of inspiration for current students at the institution.

Arafat Mahmud completed his Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examination in 2024 from Dwaryapur Degree College. He is the son of local businessman Abu Mahmud Mia and schoolteacher Shahanara Hossain. Nusrat Jahan Tanima, also an HSC graduate of Dwaryapur Degree College in 2024, is the daughter of businessman A.K.M. Habibur Rahman and homemaker Sharmin Akhter.

Meanwhile, Nafiz Iqbal Nishan completed his HSC in 2024 from BAF Shaheen College, Dhaka. He is the son of Mafiz Uddin Biswas, an officer at the Shreepur Upazila Youth Development Office, and Nazma Khatun, a schoolteacher.

Speaking after securing admission to Chattogram Medical College, Nafiz expressed heartfelt gratitude to his parents, teachers and well-wishers. He noted that perseverance during moments of doubt and challenge played a crucial role in his journey. He also emphasised his aspiration to serve the nation as a compassionate and ethical physician.

Hat Dwaryapur Sammilani Secondary School headteacher Kazi Imam Hossain described the achievement as a moment of immense pride for the institution, while Sabdalpur Union Parishad Chairperson Mosammat Panna Khatun hailed the success as proof that rural students can reach the highest academic standards with proper guidance and determination.

The story of Sonatundi now stands as a shining example of how dedication, community support and education can transform aspirations into reality.
