Voice of Healing Vision

Kumar Bishwajit has spoken candidly about how a devastating personal tragedy has reshaped both his life and his creative ambitions, while also inspiring a renewed commitment to music education and therapeutic innovation.

In February 2023, while in Canada, his only son, Kumar Nibir, was critically injured in a severe road traffic accident. The incident abruptly altered the singer’s life, compelling him to remain in Canada for an extended period as he stayed by his son’s side in hospital. The emotional strain of uncertainty and caregiving defined his daily existence, leaving little room for artistic activity during those months.

Fortunately, following a long and difficult recovery process, Nibir’s condition gradually stabilised last year, offering the family a measure of relief. This turning point allowed Bishwajit to reconnect with his audience after an extended hiatus. In June of the previous year, he returned to the stage at the “Kumar Bishwajit Live in Concert” held at Dacres Park in Danforth Avenue, Canada, marking a symbolic step back into public life.

His return to performance soon expanded beyond Canada. He travelled to Australia, where he participated in the “Legend Unleashed” concert series. The tour included performances across major cities such as Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth, where he was warmly received by expatriate audiences and long-time admirers.

Beyond performing, Bishwajit has now articulated a deeper artistic mission: transforming accumulated experience into structured knowledge-sharing for future generations. Speaking about his philosophy, he emphasised that formal musical education often focuses heavily on technical grammar, while overlooking the emotional and expressive dimension of singing. Drawing on decades of collaboration with leading music directors and performers, he observed that technical perfection does not always translate into emotional impact.

He explained that effective vocal performance requires what he describes as “lyrical acting”—the ability to embody the emotional narrative of a song. This involves controlled use of breath, resonance, and vocal placement, shifting between abdominal, chest, throat, palate and nasal techniques to express different emotional textures. According to him, this expressive layering is what transforms a technically correct rendition into a moving musical experience.

To systematise this approach, he has expressed his intention to establish a training institution dedicated to voice expression techniques. This may take the form of either an online academy or a physical training centre.

In addition, he has proposed a second, more ambitious initiative: a music-based healing centre inspired by the principles of music therapy. Although not a substitute for clinical treatment, such a facility would function as a supportive space for individuals experiencing emotional distress, depression, or cognitive challenges. Through structured musical engagement, the centre would aim to stimulate memory, reduce psychological burden, and restore emotional wellbeing.
