Warfaze: Four Decades of Musical Triumph

Pioneers of Bangladesh’s rock music scene, Warfaze, have made history by becoming the first band ever to be nominated for the nation’s highest cultural honour, the Ekushey Padak 2026. The decision recognises four decades of unparalleled musical and cultural contribution. Alongside Warfaze, nine distinguished individuals from various fields have also been selected for this prestigious award. The official ceremony is scheduled to take place at the end of this month.

Grand Reunion Celebration

Following the announcement, Warfaze organised a large-scale reunion, bringing together current and former members from across the globe, including Canada, the United States, and China. The gathering aimed to commemorate the momentous occasion of receiving the Ekushey Padak and to make the experience unforgettable for all participants.

Founder and guitarist Ibrahim Ahmed Kamal reflected, “Warfaze is not just a band; it is a family. After the announcement, we decided we would accept this honour together. Everything happened so quickly and beautifully that it feels like a dream.”

Co-founder, band leader, and drummer Sheikh Monirul Alam added, “Unfortunately, only Russell Ali from our original line-up could not join. We deeply missed those who could not be present. Having everyone together would have made the celebration even more joyous.”

The Reunion Event

The reunion took place on Friday at Banani, Dhaka. Members and their families filled the venue with warmth and camaraderie. The programme included iftar and an evening dinner, while friends from the arts and music community added vibrancy to the festivities. Stories from the band’s early days and nostalgic memories were shared, immersing everyone in the journey that began nearly four decades ago. Sheikh Monirul Alam remarked, “It felt completely like a family gathering. Everyone was deeply reflective; it was a truly joyous occasion.”

Warfaze’s Musical Journey

Formed in 1984 in Dhaka by five schoolmates—Kamal (bass), Mir (guitar), Naimul (guitar), Helal (drums), and Bappi (vocals)—Warfaze has since become legendary, redefining the country’s rock music landscape and inspiring generations of musicians.
