As the twelfth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) approaches, Rajshahi Warriors are meticulously blending experience with youth to assemble a formidable squad. While team training sessions are already underway, the franchise has yet to officially announce the name of its captain. However, head coach Hannan Sarker has offered some intriguing insights into the frontrunners for the coveted role.
When asked about the captaincy, Sarker remarked, “We have several strong candidates — Mushfiqur Rahim, Shanto, and even Akbar. All of them are proven leaders. You could say we are facing a pleasant dilemma regarding captaincy. Very soon, everyone will know who will lead Rajshahi Warriors this season.”
Regarding the wicketkeeping position, Sarker explained, “Mushfiqur is slightly ahead in team combination. He genuinely enjoys keeping and is more involved in the game when behind the stumps. Having an experienced keeper like him simplifies bowling management and overall team strategy for whoever is appointed captain. If someone else takes the captaincy, Mushfiqur will provide essential guidance.”
In parallel, the BPL authorities have made adjustments to the schedule of the season-opening matches. The inaugural clash between host Sylhet Titans and Rajshahi Warriors at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, initially slated for 2:00 PM on 26 December, will now commence at 3:00 PM to accommodate the opening ceremony.
