Police in Lucknow have arrested a couple for fraud after the wife falsely declared her living husband dead and collected an insurance payout of ₹25 lakh.
The case came to light after a complaint was lodged by Sandeep Wadhkar. According to the report, Ravi Shankar had taken out a life insurance policy worth ₹25 lakh in December 2012. On 21 April 2023, his wife, Keshri Kumari, claimed he had died on 9 April and submitted a death certificate as proof.
The insurance company verified the documents and transferred the money to her bank account. However, an internal review later revealed that Ravi Shankar was still alive and the claim was fraudulent.
Following the discovery, a case of fraud was filed. Police arrested the couple, and during questioning on Monday, both admitted to the deception.
