Rupganj, Narayanganj, Bangladesh – A married woman was allegedly sexually assaulted at knifepoint in her own home in Rupganj, Narayanganj, in a shocking pre-dawn attack on Monday, 23 March. Police have arrested two men in connection with the crime, describing the incident as “extremely violent and premeditated.”
The attack occurred around 4:00 am at the victim’s residence in Dighibarabo Boubazar. According to Officer-in-Charge of Rupganj Police Station, Sabzel Hossain, the accused – Afzal Khan, son of the late Rasel Mia, and Abbas, son of Islam Driver, both residents of the same area – entered the home and immediately overpowered the household.
“The perpetrators forced the victim’s mouth shut and pressed a knife against her husband’s throat, creating an atmosphere of extreme fear,” OC Hossain said.
When the husband attempted to intervene, he was also threatened with the weapon. The assailants reportedly warned that they would kill the woman, her husband, and their sleeping child if their demands were not met. Under this duress, Abbas first, followed by Afzal Khan, allegedly sexually assaulted the woman. After the assault, the men stole two mobile phones from the residence before fleeing.
The victim immediately lodged a formal complaint with Rupganj Police Station. Acting swiftly, police arrested the two suspects the following day in the same Dighibarabo area. Both stolen mobile phones were recovered during the operation. Authorities confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, with the possibility of further arrests if additional accomplices are identified.
