Woman Burnt to Death as Mysterious Fire Ravages Keraniganj Flat

A woman was tragically burnt to death in a devastating fire that broke out at a residential building in the Amritpur area of Jinjira Union, under Keraniganj Model Police Station in Dhaka. The incident occurred on Thursday evening in a flat situated on the southern side of the second floor of a building owned by Dolon Hossain. According to preliminary reports from the fire service and local authorities, the fire is suspected to have originated from an electrical short circuit. Upon receiving the alert, firefighting units and police personnel rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames and subsequently recovered the charred remains of a woman from the premises.

Local witnesses provided a chilling detail, stating that the entrance door of the flat was locked from the outside when the fire broke out. This restricted any chance of escape for the occupant and complicated initial rescue attempts by neighbours. The blaze caused significant damage, destroying the refrigerator and various items of furniture, with the estimated financial loss amounting to approximately two hundred thousand Taka. Records indicate that the flat had been rented four to five years ago by two sisters, Salma Begum and Shamsunnahar Begum, daughters of Shamsuddin from Aridhipara Kanaipara village in Munshiganj’s Srinagar. However, the police have yet to confirm whether the deceased is one of the two sisters or someone else.

Monirul Haque Dablu, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Keraniganj Model Police Station, stated that law enforcement was dispatched immediately following the incident to secure the area. An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the fire and to establish the identity of the victim through forensic means. The body has been sent to the Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination. Detectives and CID units are also looking into why the door was locked from the outside during the tragedy. This incident has left the local community in shock, raising serious concerns regarding fire safety and security in densely populated residential neighbourhoods.
