A young housewife tragically lost her life in a horrific robbery in Dhaka’s Uttara area on Thursday morning. The deceased, Mukta Akter, aged 21, sustained critical injuries after falling from a rickshaw at approximately 9:30 am, ultimately succumbing to her injuries.
Mukta hailed from Sonapara village in Barguna Sadar Upazila. Her father, Abdul Jalil, resides there, while Mukta and her husband, Limon Hossain, rented a home in the South Khan Faidabad area of the capital. Limon works in a garment factory, while Mukta was a full-time housewife.
According to eyewitnesses, Mukta was on her way to a market in Mirpur Pallabi for Eid shopping, travelling in a battery-powered rickshaw. Another passenger in the rickshaw reported that they were passing beneath the Uttara South Metro Station when a sudden incident occurred. A thief, allegedly operating from a passing private car, snatched at Mukta’s handbag, causing her to lose her balance and fall from the rickshaw. She sustained severe head injuries and was immediately rendered unconscious.
Bystanders and fellow passengers rushed Mukta to Uttara Modern Hospital, where her condition rapidly deteriorated. Due to the need for more advanced care, she was subsequently transferred to Tongi Ahsanullah Medical College Hospital, then to Pangu Hospital for further evaluation, and finally brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Police confirmed that Mukta suffered significant trauma to her head and skull. Her body has been placed in the morgue for autopsy, while Turag Police Station has launched an official investigation into the incident.
