Tragedy struck in Dhamrai, Dhaka, on Sunday, 15 March, when a young man lost his life after suffering an electric shock at his residence in the Bathuli Bus Stand area. The incident occurred around 1:00 PM, leaving the local community in shock.
The deceased has been identified as Chanowar Hossain, aged 25, a resident of Mohongonj in Bera Upazila, Pabna. He was the son of Md. Rezaul Hossain. Chanowar worked as a garments labourer and had relocated to Dhamrai for employment. He was renting accommodation at the home of Md. Sohrab near Bathuli Bus Stand.
According to his cousin, Md. Harun, the accident happened while Chanowar was inside the house. “He accidentally came into contact with an electric current and was severely injured. We rushed him immediately to Manikganj 250-Bed General Hospital,” he said.
Medical staff at the hospital confirmed that Chanowar had passed away before arrival. His body has been preserved at the hospital for a post-mortem examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Superintendent Inspector Md. Hafizur Rahman of Manikganj Sadar Police Station confirmed the incident to the press. “We will determine the precise cause of death once the post-mortem report is available. Preliminary indications suggest that electrocution may have caused the fatality,” he said.
