In Daulatpur Upazila of Kushtia, a young man, angry over not being given a new motorcycle, set off a petrol bomb and cocktail explosion in his own home, causing widespread panic in the area.
The incident occurred on Thursday (20 November) evening in Sonaikundi village of the upazila.
The accused, Imon Ali (22), is the son of Hashem Ali (52) from Sonaikundi Uttarpara in Hogolbaria Union. According to police and local sources, Hashem Ali works at Nasir Glass Factory in Tangail. For the past two months, his son Imon had been demanding a Suzuki Gixxer motorcycle, regularly causing unrest within the family. Locals allege that about a month ago, Imon physically assaulted his mother and drove her out of the house. On Thursday, when his parents returned, Imon set off two petrol bombs and a cocktail explosion in the courtyard to increase pressure for the motorcycle.
Upon receiving news, Daulatpur Police quickly reached the scene and arrested Imon within a short time.
Imon’s parents and locals said that he had been disobedient for a long time. Since his HSC studies, he had been involved in drug use and various criminal activities in the area.
Solaiman Sheikh Kalbela, Officer-in-Charge of Daulatpur Police Station, said that Imon was arrested immediately after the bomb explosion and legal action has been taken against him. The law and order situation in the area is now normal.
