Barisal, 25 January 2026: In the early hours of Sunday morning, a 21-year-old woman, Sharmin Akter Mim, was found dead in an apparent suicide at Nahar Mansion on Baptist Mission Road in Barisal city. Her body was discovered around 2:00 am.
Mim, a resident of Kushangal village in Nalchity Upazila, Jhalokathi District, was employed at a clothing showroom on Police Lines Road in Barisal. According to local sources, she reportedly ended her life while on a video call with her boyfriend.
Police received information about the incident shortly after 2:00 am. Officers from Kotwali Model Police Station retrieved Mim’s body from a sublet apartment of Sultan, located within Nahar Mansion at Khalifa Bari on Baptist Mission Road.
“The body has been taken to the morgue of Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination,” said Al Mamun Ul Islam, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali Model Police Station. “If the family lodges a formal complaint, appropriate legal action will be taken.”
Neighbours expressed shock at the incident. One resident said, “Mim was always calm and gentle. Her sudden death has left the entire community stunned. Her family is now in deep mourning.”
According to family members, Mim had been struggling with prolonged mental stress, compounded by personal and romantic difficulties. Her younger sister remarked, “We had no idea she was under such immense pressure.”
