Youth Murdered Over Alleged Affair

A 26-year-old man named Jobaid has been killed in Pakundia upazila of Kishoreganj district following an alleged dispute linked to an extramarital relationship involving his cousin’s wife, according to police and local sources. The incident has led to the arrest of the prime accused, Md Rana (38), who has reportedly given a preliminary confessional statement to law enforcement officials.

Police and witnesses stated that on Friday at around 8:00 pm, locals found the bloodied body of Jobaid lying on the Purpura Bridge in the Shailjani area along the Kodalia–Hossainpur paved road in Pakundia upazila. Upon receiving the information, police recovered the body from the scene and transported it to the Pakundia Upazila Health Complex, where the attending physician declared him dead. The body was subsequently sent to the morgue of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital in Kishoreganj district for post-mortem examination.

Following the incident, the victim’s father, Altaf Uddin, filed a murder case at Pakundia Police Station on Saturday night. The case was assigned for investigation to Sub-Inspector Joni Mia.

Police sources confirmed that the main suspect, Md Rana, son of Md Firoz Mia from Charpalash village in the same upazila, was arrested on Saturday morning from a residence in Rahimpur village under Shahadel Union of neighbouring Hossainpur upazila. He was later produced before a court on Sunday afternoon and sent to jail.

During interrogation, as stated by investigation-related sources, Rana claimed that the deceased Jobaid was his maternal cousin. He further alleged that Jobaid developed a close relationship with Rana’s wife through this familial connection, which later escalated into an extramarital affair. According to Rana’s statement, he became aware of the matter approximately two months earlier and instructed both his wife and Jobaid to end the relationship. However, the alleged relationship reportedly continued despite his warnings.

Tensions between Rana and his wife reportedly escalated further, eventually leading her to leave for her parental home. Rana stated that two days before Eid-ul-Azha, he learned that his wife was staying at Jobaid’s residence. He also claimed that upon visiting, he found them in an objectionable situation.

Following this, Rana is said to have planned the killing in retaliation. According to his statement to police, on the night after Eid-ul-Azha, he called Jobaid from his home and took him to Purpura Bridge in the Shailjani area, where he allegedly attacked him with a sharp weapon, resulting in Jobaid’s death. He then fled the scene.

The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Joni Mia, confirmed that the accused has been sent to jail through court proceedings. He also stated that the investigation is ongoing to determine whether any other individuals were involved in the incident.
