54 Flags, 54 Skydivers: Dhaka Set for Spectacular Celebration

In a historic effort to honour the 54th anniversary of its independence, Bangladesh is preparing an awe-inspiring Victory Day celebration on 16 December 2025. Central to the celebrations is a record-breaking skydiving display, where 54 paratroopers will each carry a national flag, setting a new Guinness World Record for the most flags flown during a parachute jump.

The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing confirmed that this initiative is a collaborative effort of the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force. The jump will take place over Dhaka’s Tejgaon old airport, allowing citizens a front-row view of this extraordinary aerial spectacle.

Preparations were finalised in a high-level meeting chaired by Faruk-e-Azam, Adviser to the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs. Other participants included cultural adviser Mostafa Sarwar Faruki, National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman, and senior officials from Home, Public Administration, and Defence Ministries. Discussions focused on large-scale programming for national observance, ensuring public accessibility and participation.

The day’s programme will commence at 11:00 AM with fly-pasts by military aircraft. A special band performance will accompany the displays, culminating in the 11:40 AM record attempt by the 54 paratroopers. Citizens will also witness coordinated events in cities across Bangladesh, including band shows and ceremonial activities led by police and border security forces.

As part of the nationwide celebrations, the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs will host three-day Victory Festivals in every district, encouraging children to participate in essay, recitation, and art competitions centred on the Liberation War. The Ministry of Culture will host an acrobatic show on 15 December at Suhrawardy Udyan and a traditional Jatra Pala, “General Osmani,” later that evening.

On Victory Day, performances of historic liberation songs will take place nationwide, and monuments will be illuminated. Key ports and ghats will remain open for public viewing of naval vessels. Museums, cinemas, and cultural centres will offer free entry, providing educational and commemorative experiences. Religious institutions across the country will conduct special prayers in honour of war heroes, and welfare events for vulnerable populations will also be held.

Faruk-e-Azam emphasised that this year’s celebration will be unprecedented in scale, engaging citizens from all walks of life. Cultural adviser Mostafa Sarwar Faruki highlighted that the combination of historic songs, air shows, and cultural performances will create a truly memorable Victory Day, particularly for the younger generation.
