Road Accidents Claim Lives in Rajshahi, Pabna, Rajbari

A series of tragic road accidents in Rajshahi, Pabna, and Rajbari has claimed six lives over the past two days. On Tuesday morning, two people were killed in Puthia, Rajshahi, and three others in Santhia, Pabna. In addition, one person died in Gopalganj, Rajbari, on Monday afternoon following a serious collision.

In Puthia, the morning incident occurred when a sand-laden dump truck collided head-on with a chicken-laden truck in Nimtala, Gondagohali neighbourhood, on the Puthia–Taherpur regional road. Two workers riding in the truck, Naim (20) and Hamim (25), both residents of Horgram Shekhpara under Kashiadanga Police Station, were killed on the spot. The driver, Md. Sohel (38), was seriously injured. Local residents rushed the injured to Puthia Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced Naim and Hamim dead. Sohel received emergency treatment for his injuries.

Authorities reported that after the collision, the dump truck driver, Md. Mintu (40), and his assistant, Swadhin Ali (22), attempted to flee but were apprehended and temporarily assaulted by local residents before being handed over to the police. Swadhin Ali was admitted to hospital in a critical condition, while Mintu is in police custody. The chicken truck owner, Mamun Hossain, estimated losses of around 150,000 Taka due to the death of his employees and damaged cargo.

In Pabna, a head-on collision between two passenger buses in Santhia resulted in three deaths and at least 15 injuries. The accident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. near Sholabaría Bridge on the Pabna–Dhaka highway. Among the deceased was Kamal Hossain (42), the driver of Shahjadpur Travels, a resident of Deepchar, Pabna Sadar. The identities of the other two victims, including the assistant of a Mashranga bus, are yet to be fully confirmed.

Meanwhile, in Gopalganj’s Goalanda, a collision between a motorcycle and a battery-operated auto-rickshaw on Monday afternoon resulted in the death of a local businessman, Shithil Biswas (25). Shithil, son of jeweller Komol Biswas and resident of Ward 4, Goalanda Municipality, was en route to his jewellery shop when the accident occurred. He was initially treated at the local health complex and Faridpur Medical College but died en route to Dhaka Medical College Hospital due to severe injuries.

Local police have confirmed that legal action under the Road Traffic Act has been initiated for all incidents. In Puthia and Goalanda, the bodies were handed over to relatives without post-mortem examination following family requests. Authorities continue investigations into the circumstances of the collisions, and public concern over road safety remains high.
