Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali has assured that there are no security threats surrounding the upcoming Great Shaheed Day and International Mother Language Day ceremonies.
Speaking at a press briefing at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, the DMP Commissioner outlined the security arrangements for the event, which commemorates the historic sacrifice of language martyrs.
The official observance will take place tomorrow, Saturday, beginning at 12:01 a.m. with a floral tribute at the Central Shaheed Minar. Citizens paying homage are requested to follow designated entry and exit routes to ensure safety and smooth movement.
The DMP has specified that visitors should access the Central Shaheed Minar via Polashi Mor and Jagannath Hall Crossing. No alternative routes will be permitted. After paying respects, attendees must exit through Ramna Crossing, proceeding towards Doel Chattar or Chankharpul. Commissioner Ali emphasised that these routes must be strictly adhered to for security and order.
The ceremonial proceedings will begin with tributes from the President and Prime Minister at the first hour of 21st February. This will be followed by other dignitaries, including foreign diplomats. The site will open to the general public at approximately 12:40 a.m., and attendees are requested to remain patient until then.
