In international cricket, India has long reigned supreme. When the Indian team takes the field, stadiums erupt with thunderous cheers, creating an atmosphere both electrifying and intimidating. For visiting teams, the roar of the crowd can be as challenging as facing India’s formidable line-up on the pitch.
England’s star all-rounder, Sam Curran, acknowledges this challenge but is eager to confront it head-on. Speaking ahead of the second T20 World Cup semi-final, Curran expressed his readiness to face the fervent Indian supporters and use the intense atmosphere to England’s advantage.
The clash is set for tomorrow, Thursday evening, at Mumbai’s iconic Wankhede Stadium, with the match scheduled to start at 7:30 PM Bangladesh Standard Time.
“We are prepared for whatever atmosphere the crowd creates,” Curran said. “As a player, it adds to the thrill. Playing in such a stadium, amidst the cheers and noise, is an incredible experience. If we can find a way to quieten the Indian supporters, it will definitely help us perform at our best.”
Curran also emphasised England’s determination to replicate their ideal performance. “Everyone asks when England will play a perfect game. Our semi-final in Adelaide was close to perfect. If we can approach that level again, it will be fantastic,” he said. “We are taking a lot of positives from our previous matches. Honestly, whether we play a perfect game or not isn’t my main focus. I just want to win and reach another World Cup final.”
The toss, he believes, could play a decisive role in shaping the contest. “In a semi-final, the conditions—dew, pitch behaviour—can influence the outcome. If we bowl first, we hope to exploit conditions and restrict India. If we bat first, the goal will be to post a strong total,” Curran added.
