Two tragic road accidents in the capital on Friday evening resulted in the deaths of four people, highlighting the dangers faced by motorists and passengers on busy city streets. The victims included two passengers and an auto-rickshaw driver. Police reported that both families were returning home after completing their Eid shopping when the accidents occurred.
The first accident occurred at the Science Lab intersection. Sazu Ahmed Sumon, a 35-year-old office assistant at the Public Works Department, was riding his motorcycle home with his only daughter, Sithi, aged 23. At approximately 9:00 PM, a truck carrying sand collided with their motorcycle. Sumon died immediately at the scene. Sithi, severely injured, was transported to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where she was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
The second accident took place at Tejgaon Satrastha intersection. Harunur Rashid Sani, 40, was returning home with his family in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw. While attempting a U-turn, the vehicle struck a traffic island. Bystanders rushed the injured to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Doctors confirmed the deaths of Sani and the auto-rickshaw driver, Alim. Sani’s wife and sister sustained serious injuries and remain under critical care.
Inspector Md. Faruk, officer in charge of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, stated that the deceased bodies have been placed in the hospital morgue. Police have notified the relevant local stations and are pursuing legal action in connection with both incidents.
