A 17-year-old boy, Mosabbir Hossain, was fatally attacked in Nasirnagar, Brahmanbaria, following a dispute sparked by torchlight shining in someone’s eyes. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday night during Eid celebrations in Boronagar village, according to police and local sources.
Mosabbir Hossain, son of Abu Mia from Boroshir village in Ward 6 of Nasirnagar Upazila, was assisting his father with boating work. On the night of the incident, he was listening to music with friends when the altercation unfolded.
Local residents reported that tensions between two influential local groups—Aftab Mia’s faction from Boronagar (Ward 6) and the Sardar Bari faction from Guziakhail village (Ward 7, Chatlapara Union)—have long existed. The disagreement reportedly escalated over a minor quarrel when the torchlight from Mosabbir and his friends disturbed other youths.
According to preliminary reports, following a verbal dispute, followers of Aftab Mia attacked Mosabbir with knives and bladed weapons, leaving him on the banks of the Meghna River. He was rescued by local residents around 10:30 p.m. and rushed to Brahmanbaria General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. The body has been placed in the hospital morgue for autopsy.
Rafiqul Islam, Chairman of Chatlapara Union Parishad, stated, “Mosabbir and his friends were listening to music when the torchlight incident occurred. A minor argument escalated, resulting in stabbing and fatal blows.”
Krishna Lal Ghosh, Investigating Officer of Nasirnagar Police Station, confirmed the incident and said that police have launched a detailed investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The incident has shocked the local community. Residents and law enforcement are offering support to the bereaved family while intensifying efforts to ensure justice.
