Press Release (1)
Date: 26 March 2026
On the occasion of Bangladesh’s historic Independence Day, the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASAD) paid solemn tribute to the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War while issuing a call for popular mobilisation against the country’s historical adversaries.
At 7:20 a.m. on Thursday, 26 March 2026, the central executive committee of JASAD, accompanied by representatives of the Workers’ Union, National Youth League, and student organisations, placed floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar in Savar National Memorial. The ceremony commemorated the bravery and sacrifice of freedom fighters and civilians who laid down their lives for the nation’s independence.
Addressing the media after the tribute, JASAD leaders emphasised that Bangladesh’s independence represents the greatest achievement in a thousand years of Bengali history. They highlighted that, fifty-five years after independence, the nation stands as living proof of the historic legitimacy of the Bengali struggle for sovereignty.
The leaders expressed concern over the continuing influence of pro-Pakistan elements, who, according to JASAD, seek to undermine the principles of the Liberation War by exploiting state power to erase historical markers, reinterpret history, and leave unresolved questions from the conflict unacknowledged. They warned that such efforts threaten the nation’s democratic, secular, and nationalist foundations.
In this context, JASAD urged all democratic, non-sectarian political and social organisations to unite in defence of Bangladesh’s freedom and the ideals of the Liberation War, calling for a broad-based popular resistance to counter threats from the nation’s adversaries.
