A 31-year-old man was brutally attacked and murdered in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, on Sunday night, in what police say appears to be the result of a longstanding personal feud. The incident took place around 9:30 pm in the Ratanpur area of Pirojpur Union, leaving the local community shocked.
The deceased has been identified as Md. Liton, a resident of Hamchhadi area, Baidyerbazar Union, Sonargaon, who lived there as a tenant. His family hails from the Sadar area of Rangpur district, and his father is Jahidul Haque.
On Monday morning, 6 April, Liton’s wife, Mafia Akter Mahi, filed a murder case at Sonargaon Police Station, naming seven individuals and citing another seven to eight unknown persons. The case identifies Don Rasel as the primary suspect.

According to police records and local sources, Liton was employed as a showroom worker at a car dealership in Signboard, Siddhirganj. He had ongoing disputes with the local criminal gang known as the Sakib and Seven Brothers Group, despite maintaining friendly relations with some of its members. This group is reportedly involved in theft, robbery, extortion, and other criminal activities in the area.
Conflicts between Liton and the gang escalated over the weekend. On Saturday, an argument occurred, and tensions remained high. On Sunday night, as Liton was in Ratanpur, a group of seven to eight men led by Don Rasel and Jasim (of the Seven Brothers Group), along with Sakib, Imran, Wasim, Osman, and others, launched a coordinated attack. They armed themselves with sticks, iron rods, sharp knives, machetes, and hammers, and attacked Liton indiscriminately.

Neighbours rushed to the scene following Liton’s cries for help. He was found severely injured and transported to Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

Liton’s widow, Mahi, told reporters, “My husband was innocent. He stood up against injustice and local criminal activities. It was this conflict that led these criminals to murder him. I demand the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and exemplary punishment.”
Sonargaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Mohammad Muhibbullah, confirmed that Liton’s body has been sent for post-mortem examination. A murder case has been registered, and operations are ongoing to apprehend the suspects.
