Mother Returns to Discover Daughter’s Lifeless Body

An 11-year-old girl was found dead after being discovered hanging from a mango tree beside her home in Noakhali, according to police and local sources. The incident occurred on Sunday evening in Dharmapur village, Ward No. 3 of Dharmapur Union, under Sadar Upazila in Noakhali.

The deceased was identified as Jannat Begum, daughter of Md Belal Hossain and Jharna Begum. Both parents are employed and had left for their respective workplaces earlier in the day. Their daughter remained at home alone, while her 14-year-old brother was attending a Hifz madrasa.

According to local residents, Jannat Begum was a sixth-grade student at a nearby school. Her brother is pursuing religious studies at a madrasa. On Sunday, when Belal Hossain and his wife left for work, their son was away at the madrasa, leaving Jannat alone at the family residence in the Doctor Bari area of the village.

Upon returning home in the evening, Jharna Begum found that her daughter was missing. After searching the house and its surroundings, she discovered Jannat’s body hanging from a mango tree next to the house, with a jute rope tied around her neck. Her cries for help drew neighbours to the scene, and the police were promptly informed.

Officers from Sudharam Police Station arrived at the location, recovered the body, and took it into custody. On Monday morning, the remains were sent to the morgue of the Noakhali 250-Bed General Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.

Sub-Inspector Mozammel Hossain of Sudharam Police Station told Prothom Alo that no signs of injury or suspicious marks were observed on the child’s body during the preparation of the inquest report. He added that the family was unable to provide any explanation for the incident. The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the autopsy report is received.

Police have registered an unnatural death case in connection with the incident. Further legal steps will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
