A sudden and intense fire broke out at a chemical warehouse in the densely populated Sanarpar area of Narayanganj’s Siddhirganj zone, causing widespread panic among local residents. Fortunately, swift intervention by emergency services ensured that no casualties were reported, averting what could have easily escalated into a major urban disaster given the hazardous nature of the materials stored inside.
The incident unfolded on Tuesday afternoon at approximately 4:30 PM. Eyewitnesses and residents reported seeing thick black smoke billowing from the facility before towering flames erupted and raced through the interior of the storage unit. The rapid spread of the fire through combustible chemical compounds and stored goods stoked immediate fears among neighbouring families, prompting many to rush out into the streets as the intensity of the blaze lit up the late afternoon sky.
Emergency response units were alerted without delay. Two firefighting units from the nearby Kanchpur Modern Fire Service Station were dispatched to the scene, arriving promptly to tackle the inferno. Working under difficult conditions amidst hazardous materials, the firefighters managed to contain the flames and prevent them from spreading to adjoining residential properties and commercial establishments.
Abdullah Al Ariffin, Deputy Director of the Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed the successful operation to the media. He stated that the two deployed units brought the blaze completely under control within roughly half an hour of intense effort. Officials noted that the exact origin of the fire remains unclear at this early stage. A formal investigation has been launched to determine both the root cause of the ignition and the total financial value of the damage sustained by the warehouse. Authorities continue to review safety protocols in the area following the incident.
