Bangladesh’s transition towards cashless transactions has been significantly reinforced by the mobile application ‘Nexus Pay’, developed by private sector lender Dutch-Bangla Bank. The platform has quietly expanded its reach to nearly one million users, becoming a widely used digital payment solution across multiple customer groups, including account holders of Dutch-Bangla Bank, users of its mobile banking service Rocket, and customers of other banks.
According to a report from Dutch-Bangla Bank on Nexus Pay, transactions conducted through the platform reached 237,572 crore taka in the previous year. Both user numbers and transaction volumes have continued to grow steadily. The user base comprises 84 per cent male and 16 per cent female customers. The service is accessible via mobile phones, laptops, and computers, enabling users to carry out financial transactions at any time.
Dutch-Bangla Bank Managing Director Ehteshamul Haque Khan said in an interview that Nexus Pay initially began with limited features but has gradually expanded through the addition of new functionalities. He noted that monthly transactions have now exceeded 20,000 crore taka and described the long-term objective as making Nexus Pay a central platform for most banking transactions, reducing the need for branch visits.

To use Nexus Pay, customers must download the official application from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. After registration using a mobile number and verification via one-time password, users set a secure six-digit PIN. Bank cards or accounts can then be linked through the application, enabling balance checks, transfers, and payments. The platform also offers virtual loyalty points, mobile recharge, and utility bill payment services.
While Dutch-Bangla Bank customers can transfer funds to other bank accounts through the platform, this feature remains restricted for users of other banks. However, services such as purchases and bill payments are available to all users.
