A murder case has been filed in connection with the killing of a father and his teenage son in Tongi, Gazipur, as police intensify their investigation into the shocking incident.
The case was lodged by the sister of the deceased, naming unidentified individuals as accused. Meanwhile, the family’s elder son has been taken into police custody for questioning as part of the ongoing probe. Law enforcement agencies have deployed multiple teams to uncover the motive and identify those involved.
According to police and local sources, the bodies of the victims were recovered early on Sunday morning from a residence in the Bonomala area of Tongi North Dattapara, as well as from a nearby railway track. The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Sohel (48) and his younger son, Sakibur Rahman Shoaib (17), son of Mustofa Darji. Shoaib was an eleventh-grade student at a local college and also worked part-time at a shop in Dhaka.
Following the incident, the victim’s sister, Shirin Sultana, filed a murder case against unknown suspects. No one has been formally named in the case so far. However, the couple’s elder son, Saifur Rahman Sohan (27), is currently being interrogated. Police stated that he may be formally arrested if evidence emerging from questioning and technical analysis confirms his involvement.
During the initial crime scene examination, investigators found Shoaib’s body inside the house with visible injuries inflicted by a sharp weapon. His mouth had been gagged, and both wrists showed signs of slashing. In contrast, Sohel’s body was recovered beside the railway line, where initial impressions suggested a possible train accident; however, injuries on his body have raised suspicions of foul play.
