Coast Guard Seizes Cannabis in Bhola

A joint operation conducted by the Coast Guard and police in Bhola Sadar Upazila has led to the arrest of two alleged drug dealers along with the recovery of cannabis. The operation was carried out in the early hours of Monday (27 April) in the vicinity of Char Gazi Adarshagram area under Velumia Union.

According to officials, the coordinated raid was launched based on confidential intelligence regarding ongoing drug trafficking activities in the locality. Following the information, law enforcement agencies intensified surveillance in the area, which had reportedly been identified as a recurring route for illicit drug distribution.

During the operation, the joint team apprehended two individuals identified as Monir Hossain and Shahid Sikder, both residents of Velumia Union. Preliminary assessments suggest that the duo had been involved in the local supply and distribution of cannabis for a considerable period. However, authorities have stated that investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of their involvement and any possible links to wider trafficking networks.

A search conducted at the scene led to the recovery of approximately one kilogram of cannabis, with an estimated street value of around 40,000 Bangladeshi Taka. Officials believe the seized contraband was being stored for distribution within the local market.

Following their arrest, the suspects and the seized narcotics were handed over to Bhola Sadar Police Station for further legal proceedings.

A media briefing confirmed the details of the operation, with Coast Guard officials emphasising that such actions are part of a broader and sustained campaign against drug smuggling along coastal and riverine regions. Authorities noted that these geographical areas are often exploited by traffickers due to their accessibility and complex waterways.
