Ansar Member Found Dead in Dhaka

A 27-year-old female Ansar member, identified as Sharmin Akhter, was found dead in a decomposed state inside a rented flat in the Kadamtali area of the capital on Sunday afternoon, prompting a police investigation into what is suspected to be a premeditated killing.

Law enforcement officers recovered the body after responding to information provided by local residents through the national emergency helpline. Upon arrival at the scene, police found the flat locked from the outside, with a strong odour emanating from within. Following the breaking of the lock in the presence of locals, officers discovered the body lying on the floor in a decomposed condition.

Preliminary examinations at the scene reportedly indicated multiple injury marks on the victim’s body, raising suspicions of foul play. Police have stated that the circumstances strongly suggest that the woman may have been murdered and the room subsequently locked from the outside by the perpetrator or perpetrators before they fled.

According to the police, Sharmin Akhter was serving as a member of the Ansar force and had been residing in a fourth-floor apartment of a multi-storey building in the Jatrabari Commissioner Road area of Jurain, within Kadamtali. Her permanent address is listed as Purbodholai Par in the Shyampur area of Dhaka.

The landlord, Anjuara Doli, stated that the victim had been living in the flat for approximately seven to eight months, along with a man who introduced himself as her husband. However, she added that the true identity of the man remains unknown to her. Following the incident, the alleged husband has reportedly gone missing and has not been traced so far.

Police officers from Kadamtali Police Station confirmed that the emergency response was initiated after a call to the national helpline. A sub-inspector at the scene stated that the room was locked from the outside and that further examination was required to determine the exact sequence of events.

The body has been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Investigators expect the autopsy report to provide clearer insight into the cause and timing of death. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to identify and locate the missing man who lived with the victim.

Authorities have described the case as a suspected planned homicide and are investigating multiple leads. Officials have assured that all necessary steps are being taken to uncover the truth behind the incident and bring those responsible to justice.
