Youth Abducted, Fatally Beaten

A 35-year-old man in Begumganj upazila of Noakhali has reportedly died after being abducted from his home and brutally assaulted, according to allegations made by his family.

The deceased, Md Abu Bakar Siddique, was the son of the late Amin Ullah from Khowajpur village in Ward No. 6 of Shonaimuri Union. His funeral prayer was held on Monday (27 April) following midday, after which he was buried in the family graveyard.

Earlier, on Saturday (25 April) at approximately 2:30 pm, Abu Bakar died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. His relatives have demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those responsible.

Abu Bakar had been working at a food stall operated by his elder brother, Nizam, in the Chandra area of Gazipur. He had recently returned to his village home prior to the incident.

According to family accounts, the incident took place on the night of Tuesday (21 April) at around 12:30 am, when Abu Bakar was inside his home using his mobile phone. At that time, a group of five to seven unidentified individuals allegedly entered the premises, forcibly abducted him, and took him to a field near a pond east of the house. There, he was reportedly restrained with a towel wrapped around his face and beaten repeatedly with iron rods. The attackers then left him near the front of the house, assuming he was dead.

Locals later found him in a critically injured condition and took him to Noakhali General Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police have stated that the incident is being treated as a suspected murder case. Officers from Rajganj Police Outpost visited the scene after receiving a wireless alert from Dhaka. Authorities have indicated that further details will become clearer following the post-mortem examination report.
