Suhrawardy College Student Killed

A college student lost his life after being struck by a wrong-way moving truck in Demra, a suburban area of the capital. The incident occurred on Saturday (2 May) at approximately 8:30 pm on the Demra Road, between the Della and Paiti areas.

The deceased was identified as Mashrafi Mustakim Alif (25), a third-year undergraduate student in the Science faculty at Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College in Dhaka.

According to available information, Alif resided in the Kutubkhali area of Jatrabari. His father is Juel Dewan. He was the eldest of two brothers. His uncle, Alauddin Jony, stated that Alif was engaged in part-time employment alongside his academic studies. He later identified the body at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 11:00 pm on the night of the incident.

Police reported that the accident occurred when a truck was travelling in the wrong direction along the Jatrabari–Demra Expressway. At the location between Della and Paiti, the truck collided with Alif’s motorcycle. He was subsequently run over and became trapped beneath the vehicle’s wheel, sustaining critical injuries.

Local residents and police personnel rescued him from beneath the truck and transported him to hospital. However, upon arrival at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, attending doctors declared him dead.

An auto-rickshaw driver, Rashedul Islam, who transported the injured student to the hospital, confirmed that medical staff pronounced him deceased shortly after arrival.

Sub-Inspector Md. Rubel Hawlader of Demra Police Station confirmed the circumstances of the accident. He stated that the truck had been travelling in the opposite direction at the time of the collision. Following the incident, the truck driver fled the scene. Law enforcement later seized the vehicle for investigation purposes.

Inspector Md. Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, also confirmed the death. He added that the body had been kept in the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination, while Demra Police Station was conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident.
