Truck Recovered After Fakirhat Robbery

Police in Bagerhat’s Fakirhat upazila have recovered a truck loaded with abandoned aluminium worth approximately Tk 1.35 million after an alleged robbery on its way to Chattogram from the Rampal Thermal Power Plant area. Two people have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The recovery operation was carried out in the early hours of শুক্রবার (8 May) following raids in different locations. Police eventually recovered the truck and its cargo from an abandoned brick kiln in the Mulghar area of Fakirhat upazila.

The arrested individuals were identified as Md Jaynul Abedin, 38, of Pagla Uttarpara area, and Md Jewel Sikder, 32, of Naldha village in the upazila.

According to police and the complainant, three business partners — Monirul Islam, Kamrul Sheikh and Shamim Hasan of Rampal — had jointly purchased abandoned aluminium from the Rampal Thermal Power Plant for approximately Tk 1.35 million.

On Thursday evening (7 May), the purchased materials were loaded onto a rented BRTC-operated truck for transportation to Chattogram. During the journey, local people reportedly stopped the vehicle at Rampal Zero Point and Sonatonia bus stand to inspect the cargo. They checked whether the truck contained copper or any illegal materials. After no illegal goods were found, the truck was allowed to continue its journey.

Later, at around 1:00am, the truck resumed travelling towards Chattogram. When it reached the Sukdara area of Fakirhat upazila, a group of approximately 15 to 16 alleged robbers reportedly intercepted the vehicle. The complainant alleged that the gang threatened the truck driver and the accompanying individuals before fleeing with the truck and its cargo.

After receiving information about the incident, Fakirhat Model Police Station launched an immediate operation in several areas. At around 4:30am, officers recovered the truck and the aluminium cargo from an abandoned brick kiln in Mulghar and brought them to the police station. Two suspects were detained during the operation.
