A chilling case of abduction, alleged extortion, and murder has come to light in Sharsha upazila of Jessore, Bangladesh, after police recovered the body of a young man nearly a month after he went missing. The victim, 25-year-old Ikramul Kabir, was reportedly buried beneath a cattle shed in his lover’s in-laws’ property.
According to police and family accounts, Kabir, son of Abdus Rashid from South Baropota village, went missing on 8 April after being called out from his sister’s house in Setai area of Sharsha. His mobile phone was switched off shortly afterwards, prompting growing concern among his relatives.
Initial attempts by the family to trace him through local police stations, including Sharsha and Benapole Port, as well as the Detective Branch, yielded no results. The case took a decisive turn after investigators detained several suspects and gathered critical intelligence.
On Saturday night, more than a month after Kabir disappeared, police excavated the floor of a cattle shed in the house of his alleged lover, Munni, in Boshtopur East Para. There, they discovered his partially decomposed body buried underground.
Law enforcement officials believe the killing may have stemmed from a combination of a romantic affair and a financial dispute. Kabir had reportedly gone to recover money owed to him from Munni, who is married to Al Farhad. Police suspect that tensions escalated, resulting in his murder and secret burial.
Following the discovery, police arrested four individuals: Al Farhad, his wife Munni (22), Munni’s father Fazlu Mollah, and their associate Kakoli Akter. Authorities say Al Farhad was initially detained and later provided information leading to the recovery of the body. The suspects were produced before a court on Sunday morning.
The victim’s father, Abdus Rashid, has alleged that his son was deliberately trapped in a conspiracy. He claims that after Kabir was taken away, the family received repeated ransom demands ranging between 10 million and 40 million Bangladeshi taka. Despite efforts to comply with investigations, no trace of Kabir was found until the recent breakthrough.
