In the past 24 hours, six children have died in Bangladesh from measles and measles-like symptoms, according to a health bulletin issued by the Directorate General of Health Services. The reporting period covers Saturday 8:00 a.m. to Sunday 8:00 a.m. Of the six fatalities, one child was confirmed to have measles, while five others had symptoms consistent with the disease.
During the same 24-hour period, a total of 1,274 new cases of children presenting measles-like symptoms were recorded nationwide. In addition, 243 children were confirmed to have measles. This brings the total number of new affected children in the period to 1,517.
The single confirmed measles-related death occurred in the Barishal division. Among the five deaths linked to symptoms, three were reported in Dhaka division, one in Sylhet division, and one in Mymensingh division.
The Directorate General of Health Services stated these figures in its latest measles situation report, which tracks the ongoing outbreak across the country.
Since 15 March, the cumulative situation has shown a significant burden on the healthcare system. A total of 384 children have died from measles-like symptoms during this period. In addition, 75 children have died after laboratory confirmation of measles. Overall, total deaths linked to measles and measles-like symptoms have reached 459.
The report also provides broader cumulative data on cases, hospital admissions, and recoveries since 15 March. During this period, 57,846 children have developed measles-like symptoms nationwide. Of these, 42,092 children have been admitted to hospital for treatment. A total of 37,744 children have been discharged after recovery.
Confirmed measles cases over the same period stand at 7,767 children, according to the health authorities.
