The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Bangladesh Police has collected DNA samples from Aman Ullah Mahmudi Sagor, a madrasa teacher accused of raping an 11-year-old girl in the Madan Upazila of Netrokona. The incident resulted in the minor becoming pregnant, leading to a formal legal intervention and a series of forensic procedures to establish biological evidence.
Procedural Timeline and DNA Collection
According to Mohammad Riad Mahmud, the Netrokona Court Inspector, the DNA collection took place on 17 May at the CID headquarters in Dhaka. This forensic step followed a specific judicial order issued on 10 May by the relevant court. The order was granted after Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Aktaruzzaman, the investigating officer of the case, submitted a formal petition seeking a DNA test to ensure a scientifically rigorous investigation.
The accused was transported from Netrokona to Dhaka on 16 May to facilitate the procedure. SI Md. Aktaruzzaman confirmed that the samples are currently undergoing analysis. The prosecution intends to proceed with further legal measures once the CID provides the official forensic report.
Background of the Legal Proceedings
The legal process commenced on 23 April, when the victim’s mother filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act at the Madan Police Station. The statement of the case alleges that the accused, Aman Ullah Mahmudi Sagor, subjected the minor to repeated sexual assault, which eventually led to her pregnancy.
Following the initial arrest, the court granted a three-day remand for the accused on 7 May for interrogation. Upon the conclusion of the remand period on 10 May, the investigating officer moved for the DNA testing to corroborate the allegations with forensic data. The court subsequently approved the request and scheduled the next hearing for 28 June.
