Trader Found Dead After Disappearance

A fertiliser trader who went missing in Chandpur’s Kachua Upazila was found dead two days later, prompting concern among local residents and the business community. Police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding his death.

The deceased, Nurul Islam, 70, was a resident of Tulpai village under Kachua Upazila and had been involved in the fertiliser trade at Kachua Market for many years. His sudden disappearance and subsequent death have generated widespread discussion in the area.

According to family members, Nurul Islam left his home on Friday morning, following his usual routine of travelling to his shop at Kachua Market. When he failed to return home and could not be contacted throughout the day, relatives became increasingly worried and began searching for him.

His younger son, Chanaullah, said that he visited the market on Friday afternoon and found his father’s shop closed. After speaking with neighbouring traders, he learned that Nurul Islam had reportedly left the market earlier in the day after telling others that he was feeling unwell. No one was able to provide information about where he went afterwards.

As the family’s search efforts proved unsuccessful, they contacted relatives and checked various locations where he might have gone. When no trace of him was found, a General Diary (GD) was lodged with Kachua Police Station. Police subsequently circulated information about the missing trader to law-enforcement agencies in other areas.

A breakthrough came on Saturday night when Kachua Police Station informed the family that the body of an unidentified man had been recovered from a wetland beside the eastern side of the Srinibas Purbapara highway area in South Comilla Sadar. Family members travelled to the location and formally identified the body as that of Nurul Islam.

The death has left the family grieving and searching for answers. Chanaullah stated that his father had no known personal disputes or conflicts, making the circumstances surrounding his death particularly difficult for the family to understand. He called on authorities to identify anyone responsible and ensure that appropriate legal action is taken.

News of the incident also triggered concern among local traders in Kachua Market. On Sunday, fertiliser merchants closed their businesses for several hours as part of a protest programme. During the demonstration, traders demanded a thorough investigation, the uncovering of the facts surrounding the death, and the prosecution of any individuals found responsible.

Business leaders noted that Nurul Islam had been a familiar figure in the market for many years. They argued that the unexplained death of a well-known trader has raised questions about public safety and security for members of the local business community.

Kachua Police Station Officer-in-Charge Azizul Islam confirmed that a General Diary had been filed after Nurul Islam went missing. He said that information about the disappearance was shared with police stations across the country as part of the search effort.

The officer added that investigators are currently examining all available evidence and collecting relevant information to establish the cause of death. Authorities are reviewing every possible angle of the case and have indicated that conclusions regarding the circumstances of the death, including whether any criminal involvement was present, will only be reached after the investigation is completed.

Police have not yet announced any findings regarding the cause of death, and the investigation remains ongoing.
