Father and Son Killed in Chattogram Crash

A tragic road accident in the New Bridge area of Karnaphuli Upazila in Chattogram claimed the lives of a father and his son on Tuesday morning, highlighting ongoing concerns about road safety on some of the region’s busiest transport corridors.

The accident occurred at approximately 8:00 a.m. near the first staircase adjacent to the Karnaphuli New Bridge. According to eyewitnesses and police officials, a motorcycle carrying two people collided with a pickup truck travelling from the bridge towards the Moijjartek area. The force of the impact caused both riders to sustain severe injuries.

The deceased were identified as 75-year-old Durgapada Mallik and his son, 47-year-old Bidhan Mallik. They were residents of Singhara Uttarpara in Chatari Union under Anwara Upazila. Durgapada Mallik was the son of the late Nagendra Mallik.

Witnesses reported that Durgapada Mallik, who was travelling as a passenger on the motorcycle, was thrown onto the road during the collision. He suffered critical injuries and died at the scene before local residents could arrange emergency assistance. His son, Bidhan Mallik, who was riding the motorcycle, sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for treatment. Despite efforts by medical staff, he later succumbed to his injuries.
